Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: harmonic balancer, buick lesaber, harmonic balancer

Question
hello,i have a buick lesaber limited edition,1991
im replacing the harmonic balancer, can i go in through the wheel well, instead of pulling the motor out.have the tire off can see the balancer rite there, what ive read, says to pull cylinder head to make sure(top dead center)then im reading to stand engine on side to protect crank.mechanic told me,go through wheel is better? its v6 3.8liter.ThankYou john Lynch

Answer
Hi John,
I can't immagine needing to pull engine, or for that matter, why they even want it at TDC, since there is a keyway and key.
I'd sure try the wheel well, but haven't done a 3.8, so guess I'd look it up.
And there are several ways to find TDC that are much simpler than removing a head.
