Plymouth Repair: 90 Plymouth Grand Voyager Van, Tranny Oil Leaking, plymouth grand voyager, mechanic friend

Question
I just got this van a few weeks ago and the transmission fluid started leaking a couple days ago. Then it started slipping when we would drive it. Sort of feels like you hit the breaks and then it goes back to normal. When we put more tranny fluid in it, it drove just fine, no more slipping. The leak apparently got worse though. My husband took a look and said something about the flywheel, the gasket and the seals. He's not a mechanic though and he thinks the part that we need would require pullng the tranny out. So he put silicone to stop the leak but a mechanic friend told him that the fluid would just build up in the flywheel. Oh we also trried adding some stuff to the tranny fluid that's supposed to help with the seals. Yesterday it was slipping so bad I couldn't even get it out of the driveway, it still drove but I was afraid it would break down.

What I want to know is do you think this is a simple problem that could be fixed with a small part being put on the tranny to stop this leak? Or does this mean the tranny is going out?

Answer

this means the tranny as to be pulled and the seales replaced the tranny could be just fine . of course the more u drive it . it will only get worse. thire is no good stop leak they might help a small leak but not seals bring to a tranny shop and get a price on new seales around 300 dollors with labor . good luck to u hun and if you need more help u let me know and you have a very pretty name pete
