I have a 89' Plymouth Acclaim, and it has been running like it is running out of gas.  But there is over 1/4 tank.  It bogs down, can't get any power, and have to put it in Neutral to rev motor so it doesn't die, and with the pedal on the floor it only goes to about 2K. You have to constantly flutter the gas pedal to get any power.  Then all of a sudden, it won't do it.  Then it does it really bad.  I recently changed the spark plugs, and put in those split fires, but it didn't seem like it was a great improvement.  And it has ran since then.  I had an exhaust leak, and it was acting like the tranny was slipping, but after that was repaired, it was running real good, until this.  My roomate checked the fuel filter, and it seemed to be "ok". And the fuel pump is working, I read in one of the articles, I am not sure if you answered, about a fuel pressure regulator, but they don't know where that is.  I don't have a lot of money to be guessing what is wrong.  Have any clues?  I would greatly appreciate your help!

hello brenda
this is the fuel reg it is on top of motor close to carb or thtotle body pete

Well hello Pete.  Since I submitted this question, I have had 4 people look at this car, the codes were taken, from turing the key, and it said to replace the map sensor and the cooling sensor.  The guy I bought the car from brought over a bunch of parts from a car that had body damage, not engine trouble, to change things out, such as the map sensor, and that didn't work, so the fuel injectors, the coil, now, it is supossedly pouring too much gas, like the o-rings weren't put back in with the fuel injectors, but I think they fixed that, now this mechanic, who is also a friend, (and has basically been doing the process of elimination) NOW says it is the computer!  Well, I had this almost exact problem with this 92' Sunbird a few years ago,and I ended up just junking the car, because it cost entirely too much money to do all this, and nothing was working, and it was getting worse, not better.  I told him that before I go and get another computer, maybe I could take one out of a vehicle same/similiar to try their computer to see if this would solve the problem, before going and buying one that I don't need.  I can't afford this, and it doesn't look like there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  And the car I was borrowing just seized up on a major interstate on me.  Nothing like a good week!  Yikes!  So, I desperately need some good solid advice, and by the way, they said they looked/diagnosed the fuel reg. and it wasn't it.  I wish I could send it to you, so I would know for sure.  I would appreciate any and all help with this,  I need to be mobil!  Thanks Pete, and have a good day!
