Pontiac Repair: secondary air pump

QUESTION: Can't pass smog ! secondary air pump is working but computer reads its faulty ! relay was replaced, don't knw what else to do pls help

ANSWER: what model and year is this in? when the car is cold and you start it can you hear the pump running? I'll assume it has a SES light on a p0410 code set?

QUESTION: Its a 2000 pontiac bonneville 3.8 V6,  nd yes I can hear it kick in!  Knw?  Does it have to stay on?  Or kick in when needed? ..

well that is a start. if the pump runs and assuming it's actually pumping air and the impeller in not broken off then chances are the air shut off valve on the back of the engine is stuck closed not allowing the air to flow into the exhaust. It's just a guess but a common problem. good luck.
