Pontiac Repair: Trouble codes on 92 Firebird, auto parts stores, scan tool

QUESTION: Got a block from home and engine light came on, engine acted erratically. I jumped the A & B terminals to retrieve codes, but the engine light does not flash, at all. I have disconnected battery, restarted, engine light on immediately. I cannot pull codes with jumper in place. Any ideas? Thanks!

what engine is in this car? stop by one of the big box auto parts stores and see if a code reader will pull codes out and start there. they do not charge to scan for codes.

QUESTION: Hi, it has the 3.1 V6. Drivability leaves me wondering if it will make it. What scanner would I need to get?

There are all kinds of genaric scan tool out there but they are pricey and you need to know what your looking for on the scan tool. that has a distributor on it if it's running that bad I would take a look at the cap and rotor and the plug wires on the cap as well as on the coil maybe you have a "Wet" cap or a bad set of wires cauing your issue???
