Pontiac Repair: aztek-revisited, ac delco, gas gauge

Question
Todd,
mike here, asked you about my 2002 aztek and the BCM.
replaced BCM and had it programmed by dealership..
however same problems exist as I stated before...gauges, check engine, service engine, security, no gas gauge, no temp , no tach, no odometer...new "brain" was genuine AC delco part...it did program becuase I have radio back...
however, I have all the same issues as I had before..
any ideas?...I am guessing a wiring issue? bad ground? corrosion?
I have no clue...
If you can hit this issue bullseye I will gladly PP you some $$...
As so far I have over 300.00 and nothing has changed.
thanks so much
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike;

have you had this thing scanned for codes? stop by one of the buig box auto parts stores and see what codes are stored in what modules. it could be a lot of things. The BCM is a VERY VERY VERY common issue with the things hoeever not in your case i guess. next thing to look at would be the ignition switch. the contacts wear out in them and then there is high reistance thus the fuses don't power up fully and then you have iissue with communication codes because modules don't power up right away due to the lack of power doing to the modules. Id the has u1300 or u1301 data link hi or data link low you could have a module going down in the communication network and one module can cause issues up or down stream from where it is. as far as the ground side of things the main body ground off the battery you may want to look at the smaller gauge wire of the 2 ground wides that goes to the body. make sure it's clean and tight. make sure you don't have any corrosion between the battery and the cables the side post GM batteries are notorious for leaking acid out and into the cables. make sure the ground wires at the engine to tranmission are clean and tight give them a tug if the break you found your issue. same thing there clean and tight the ones I'm refering to are by the starter. last thing to look at would be the pass though under the rear floor board on the left side of the car it's a harness that the gas gauge goes though the floor and into the truck. make sure there is no water or corrosion in that connector that will cause gas guage issues and also check engine light issues. those are all the common problems for that truck I'm sure you have one of them or maybe even 2 of those issues going on. Hope that helps you out.
Good luck :-)
