Pontiac Repair: Told I have loose ball joints, 2007 pontiac g6, pontiac g6

Question
I have a 2007 Pontiac G6 GT. Last week the transmission blew with 4 days left on the warranty. The dealership replaced the transmission and then told us we had loose ball joints in the front of the car and they all needed to be replaced at a cost of $1100. We're getting a second opinion today. I understand how serious this is, but I've been told that we would hear noises in the front of the car -- which we haven't. Yesterday while driving, I really "looked" for a noise. And with the radio and air conditioner off I can hear a faint "click" noise from the steering wheel while driving, but nothing when turning. Is this the noise people are talking about? I keep thinking a noise that indicates a problem would be more apparent. And finally, if we take the car to a service garage, would these replacements cost less than $1100? The car has 64.9K miles on it and I live in NJ.

Answer
Hi Luanne:

Yup those are super common on those cars to go bad. You need a complete control arm you can't just replace the ball joint. this is what you need :

The GM parts are expensive. the car will need an alignment after the parts are replaced.

Good luck :=}
