Pontiac Repair: A/C not working, ponitac torrent, self kits

I have a 2007 ponitac torrent with 17,000 miles.The a/c does not work to good,the compressor keeps cycling on & off.I added a can of freon bur it keeps cycling on &off.The temp. blows cold for a moment than it blows warm again.Thanks,Paul

Hi Paul:

well it van be a buch of things. More then likely it's low on a charge of "freon" but blindly adding a can of a/c fix it is not the way to fix it you have no Idea how much is in the system to start and you have no way with the do it your self kits as to how much you added. if you add 22 much you can have the same effect as not enough. the system needs to be drained and refilled with the corect amount and a leak dye tracer added to see if and when the system goes low again the dye will be left behind as to where the leak is. I have also see the low pressure control vlaves on these truck go bad and cause issues. But then again if it doesn't have the correct amount in it you will never know. If the valve was the issue from the get go and you over charged the system it doesn't help matters. So that is where I would start looking and do to get to the bottom of the problem. I personally hate seeing those fix al kits at the parts stores they cause more issues then they fix. good luck :-)
