Pontiac Repair: timing replacement 97 sunfire 2.4, cam gears, vacuum hose

Question
QUESTION: Where are the timing marks on the pulleys and what is there alignment?

ANSWER: Hi William:

that engine has one on the crank gear at the 12:00 position I think there is a dot on the block to make sure the 2 lione up. and the cam gears have alignment holes that go though the gear and into the timing cover you can use a 8MM bolt or 5/16" bolt to allign the hose you need bolts that re about 2 1/2" long to go though the gear and into the laocting hole in the timing cover. They are "near" the 6:00 position. good luck :-)

P.S. the extra gear is for the water pump and it doesn't make a difference where that is in relation to the other 3 gears.

QUESTION: I replaced the timing chain and water pump. Started the car it is running rough and set a code p0107 map sensor. Where is the map sensor? Doesn't idle right and has very little power.

Answer
The map sensor is mounted on the intake manifold. It is a black plastic sensor with a 3 wire connetor on it small vaccum hose going to it. chance are the vacuum hose is either kinked or split open. Uusllay the MAp sensor it's self doesn't go bad it's a vacuum supply issue more then anything else.
