Pontiac Repair: 2005 Pontiac G6 GT, 2005 pontiac g6, pontiac g6

Question
I'm back again with another question. I have changed the throttle body and reset my codes. Unfortunately, my problems were not resolved. The reason my car was dead each morning was from the compressor relay. It was engaging when the car was off, causing the battery to run down. I took it to the local dealership to find this issue. Their resolution was to take the relay out, and tell me it could cost upward to $1,000 dollars to figure out the reason for the problem. The only thing I was told was it could possibly be a short in the fuse box or the plug to the compressor. Is there anything you can tell me to try? I've tried buying a new relay. I was wondering if the compressor could be bad and be the whole issue. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi danette:

I would rule out the plug for the compressor. It's a control issue for the A/C relay. That is strange the only way that the relay should be powered up is when the ignition key is in the run position when the key is off that relay should not have "control" power to it so in order for that relay to be powerd up there has to be a short to power on the power ckt. 1/2 of that relay is powerd up all the time by the battery the other 1/2 of the relay has power to it when the ignition key is in run or crank. when the key is off it should not have 2 power feeds to it. so with out seeing it it's hard to say what the issue here is. Now if your still having throttle body issues as well I don't really know what the 2 have in common other then the engine control module (ecm/pcm) When the key is on the control module should ground the A/C relay when you have the HVAC control on in the a/c postion it sends a request to the engine control module and in turn that grounds the relay. So there are a lor of things that need to happen here for the a/c to function. the only common thread between both issues in the control module That doesn't mean that is the root cause though, Just a common thread. Good luck :-)
