Pontiac Repair: Check light, auto parts stores, pontiac grand am

Question
I have a Pontiac grand am and upon ignition, all the lights on the dash light up except the check engine light. Is it supposed to do that?

Answer
Hi Ash:

What year grand Am is this? All the lights on the IP should turn on for a bulb check and some will then go out the check engine or service engine soon lamp should turn on. if it doesn't there is an issue it could be a burnt out bulb or an bad LED in the IP depending on the year of the car. if you don't have a light comming on in some states that would fail for a emission test. you can stop by one of the big box auto parts stores and have the car scanned for codes and see hat may be in the engine comoputer's memory for any codes. If you bought this udes someone may have made it so the lamp doesn't turn on or it may just be a failure that the light doesn't come on. I can't say for sure with out seeing it. Good luck :-)
