Pontiac Repair: tail lights/brakelights stay lit on 2003 Grand am, brake light switch, fog lights

Question
I went outside to my car this afternoon and my brake lights/tail lights were on.  I didn't think they were on earlier. I looked in the car and thought maybe the floor mat was stuck under the break pedal. I pulled out the floor mat and lifted up on the break pedal but it did no good. I then restarted the car and pressed the break pedal to the floor and turned the car off and the lights went out.  I left work that evening, got gas in my car and the lights were not on.  I then drove home and when I turned the vehicle off the brake lights were still lit.(bu the way, the floor mat was still not put back on the drivers side floor) I put the key back in, started the car, pressed the break pedal to the floor, turned off the car and the lights went off.  I do not know if they were on while I was driving.  The emergency break is not on, and this does not seem to be affecting the headlights, fog lights, or any other... just the lights on the "back" of the car.  I would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Julie:

sonds like you have a brake light switch is that out of adjustemnt ot the contacts stick on in the switch. The switch presses on the brake pedal rod and  when the pedal is depressed the plunger in the switch moves and turns the lamp on so either the switch or the adjustemnt of the switch is the issue here. good luck :-)
