Pontiac Repair: Grand AM Acceleration Issue, gas pressure regulator, spark plug wire

Question
Hi Tood, hope you can help me out, i own a pontiac grand am GT 2001 3.4 L, i´ve been experiencing issues with the iddle acceleration, let me explain you, the car runs nicce when started or when driving without hitting to hard the gas pedal, when i try to accelerate more than the normal, maybe on a hill or when i want to drive fast the cars stays accelerated when returning to full stop/iddle, almost 1000 rpm and when changin to neutral or park the rpm goes up tu 2400 2500, to fix it i need to turn off the engine and then start it again and problem solved until it happens again. I already changed the TPS sensor, cleaned the MAF sensor, changed the Air filter, checked the vacum hoses, and cleaned the iac valve, there are no service engine lights on, also i can notice the Gas pressure regulator is failing because its hard to turn on the car without pushing the gas pedal and the acceleration from iddle is kind of funny, vibrating like lost of power and i experienced that in another car and when i cahnged the GPR the problem solved. Hope you can help me out.

Best Regards
Hector

Answer
Hi Hector:

is this worse on a cold damp AM or when it's raining out? If so I would suspect either a bad spark plug wire or bad ignition coil. When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced on this? on a fuel injected engine there is not much the do it your selfer can do to fix it. The TPS you replaced did you ues an OEM AC delco part? if not that can cause issue. I don't care what you drive if you need any kind of eletrical part put the orignal equipment part back in. I see more after market parts cause all kinds of issues.
