Pontiac Repair: Seat Track Release Cable Repair, matt thompson, release cable

Question
My passenger seat track release was one day snapped off due to ignorance of people. That's not the problem though. The function of the track release located on the bottom-right behind the seat seems to be broken. This meaning the seat itself will not lock back into place when put back. If there is no one in the passenger seat, it will just lay forward. This really is irritating. I noticed the cable was a bit loose but not broken or disconnected. (I could pull it out of its sheath. Please, give me instruction on how to fix this. Links would be nice also.

Answer
Hi Matt:

if the seat will move if you pull up on that cable that goes between the 2 tracks then chances are that cable is stretched out and when the seat is released to move the 1 side the other side will not unlatch and allow the tracks to move in unison. That cable that goes between the 2 tracks usually is available as long as the car is not too old. right now after 5 or 6 years GM decides not to carry replacement parts and they are dicontinued. of course with out seeing it I can't tell you for sure what the issue is You could have sotheing bent too is someone stuffed sothing under the seat and then the seat was moved and jammed and was then forced due to what ever was stuck under the seat all bets are off as to what the issue is. good luck :-)
