Pontiac Repair: idle control valve, chevron techron fuel system, vapor locks

Question
Hi Todd, I have an 05 pontiac grand prix, base model.  i have trouble starting engine when its warm, I have to add gas for the engine to start.  Someone tells me idle control Valve, but I suspect my car doesn't have valve, it has a motor. Is this right? And is there a possibility it can be cleaned instead of replaced?  New Motor, 120 after market, probably 240, at mechanics, and never mind labor.

Answer
Hi Michael:

That engine does not have an IAC valve it has a TAC throttle actaution control module the throttle blade is eletronic and no valve on that engine. I would start by cleaning the throttle body and throttle plate. there are other things it could be too. the check vlave in the fule pump could be laking and the fule pressure bleeds of into the tank and the gas in fuel rail begins to vaporize and those vapors will not but right and the engine vapor locks cauing a hard start. it could also have some leaking fuel injetors and the same thing happes with a vapor lock but the mixture extremly rish and will not stat and run. You can try a product called Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner it works fantastic for cleanin injectors. just follow the label and to how but to add to a full tank of gas. good luck :-}
