Pontiac Repair: p0420, emission inspection, hypertech

hey todd. my name is brian. i am also an " expert " in  the ford category. i have a 98 pont sunfire with a p0420. i know cat replacement is most common repair but have been told you can also do a " cat burnout/cleanout " procedure to these vehicle to clean cats out ???? does that sound right ? keep in mind this is my own vehicle not a customers.. thanks- take care.. -b-

The only way you could do it is if you got a programmer like from hypertech and it then disreguard the post O2 sensor. Because with it hollowed out your doing to set the same code. The ECM needs to see the right post O2 sensor voltage or it will trip a 420 every other key cycle after you clear the code and if you live in a stae like I do if the light is on it will fail emission inspection. In NY we don't do a sniffer emission (upstate) down state they do. our tester is a plug into the DLC connetor. I don't know of a walk around to help you out sorry...
