Pontiac Repair: sunfire wont start, sunfire gt, positon

Question
hi, i have a 1998 sunfire GT, the battery died after sitting for the summer, so i replaced the battery with a new one fully charged cables are tight, it started for like 3 seconds then quit (out of gas) so put gas in it, now all it will do is turn over, will not catch and start. i think the anti-theft is playing a big part in this.

Answer
Hi Missy:
Yes it sounds like a pass-lock security issue do this disconnect the battery let it sit for a few minutes. crank the car and let it stall out and leave the key in the run positon for 10 minutes or untill the secuirty lamps stops flashing or goes out. then turn the key off wait a minute and then restart the car. it should start and run then. if it does start and run you need a new ignition lock housing. It has a sensor in it that is going bad. good luck :-)
