Pontiac Repair: 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, pontiac grand prix, engine temp

Question
Hi Todd,
I am back again. I did what you had suggested previously and the fans did not come on when the gauge started moving upward. So based on that what should I look for when I take it to the mechanic. Will he basically hook it up to the computer and it will tell him what to look for. Thanks for your help.

Answer
if it were me looking at it I would hook a scan tool up to the car #1 check for trouble codes that are coolant fan related. Then let the car run and see if the engine compuyer is readin the correct engine temp and then see if indeed the computer is trying to command on the fan(S). and go from there it's and input or output issue with the engine computer either it's not seein the right temp which I douby because you see the temp on the gage. and that is a direct reading from the engine computer so the next step is seeing if indeed the computer sees the over temp and is trying to turn the fan(S) on or not. if it it trying then there is a relay issue fan issue or wiring between the computer/relay/fans(S)

good luck :-}
