Pontiac Repair: CAR OVER HEATING, pontiac grand prix, blown fuse

Question
I HAVE A 2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX THAT HAS STARTED TO OVER HEAT. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WENT ALL THE WAY PAST WHAT IT SHOULD AND THE CAR OVERHEATED WITH STEAM COMING OUT ETC. I LET IT COOL DOWN AND MADE IT HOME. I STARTED THE CAR IN THE MORNING AND IT STARTED UP AND IT RAN SMOOTHLY I DROVE IT AROUND THE CORNER AND I WAS ONLY GOING TO THE PARK AND RIDE BUT I DID NOTICE THE GAUGE STARTED MOVING. WOULD I NEED TO REPLACE A SENSOR THAT REGULATES THE FANS OR DOES IT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING ELSE.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

Answer
Hi Tony:
first off when it's cold make sure the coolant is full in the radiator and in the over flow bottle. use only the orange Dex-cool coolant to top it off. next start the car up and if the A?C still works on this car turn the a/c on after about a minute or so the coolant fan(s) should come on at a low speed if not that's not a good sign. let the car run in park and watch the temp gauge if it goes past the normal range see if the fans go on? if not turn the car off and check the fuses in the under hood fuse box for the fan(s) the temp sensor for the guage is also the same one for the engine which runs the fans fo I would rule that out. with out the aid of a scan tool your kind of stuck here. it could be a relay for the fans it could be the engine computer a blown fuse due to a bad motor or a rubed thru wire going to one of the fans there are a lot og things that it could be here. good luck :-}
