Pontiac Repair: clank cladder click clunk, brake job, jalopy

Question
Hi Todd,
I have a '98 Pont. Sunfire, convertable, 2.4 engine.. I am the original owner.   About a year ago, I found this big black rubber thing under my seat.. it turned out to be to one of the motor mounts.  Who knew?  Anyway, I didnt think anything of it and ahem trusted my neighborhood mechanic..
Last summer, I took my car to another wonderful mechanic in my town.. they put an ignition signal (?) in.. a couple weeks later, my a/c wasnt getting cold and sounded horrible.. (im in the desert!) I asked if he would check the compressor.  Mech said its not the compressor its the huge hose.  I got the part took it back in, left it there all day, went to pick up car at the end of the day.. it was jumping-lurching? like a cartoon jalopy!  i turned around and brought it back and they acted like they didnt know what i was talking about.  and the a/c was worse than when i brought it in.  mech said, i think its the compressor.  ya think?  anyway, i went the summer without ac.  ugh.  My car has been feeling horrible since.  During a recent brake job, the mech took me to the engine and said look..  while moving the wheel, the entire engine was swinging back and forth.  all this time its been slamming up against the hood.. swaying and disconnecting everything,  lights all light up in dash but doesnt work.. We found bolts under the battery! for the top cover of the block  where it says 2.4.  we were changing the battery and when we lifted it, there were bolts there, didnt know where they belonged at first.. then accidentally found the 2.3 cover lifted right off. it had been slamming against the hood and the plastic near the carb thingy is all broken,,  no seal possible.  Ive been thinking my fuel pump was shot cuz my car wouldnt start last week..  thats when we found all the exciting damage .  should i junk my little ol faithful or get it fixed.. i have to have a/c, the suspention is terrible tires wearing all over unevenly, conv. top destroyed from sun, window wont roll down, button broken.. conv top leaks like crazy in rain.  signal lights not working, headlights not working..  etc.   thank you for your time Todd, you answered a question for me a while back also.  Please advise.  thanks  jen

Answer
Hi Jen:

You have a great sense of humor. I was laughing while reading this. The long and short of it don't dump any more $ into this car. use it a a trade in and the $ you would have spent fixing it towards a down payment on a newer car. Far too many issues to address and the car is not worth it. It's a 14 year old car now that the 2012's are out. good luck :-}
