Pontiac Repair: Help..., upper intake manifold, crank sensor

i have a 1991 pon. grand prix se 3.1...well to start off the problem im having is i can drive my car so many miles and it all of a sudden dies and the service engine soon light comes on and it will start back up but when you press on the gas it dies...i have replaced my crank sensor, fuel pump, fuel filter, ignotion module, power steering pump, the pressure hose, and transmission and its still doin the same thing i have it at a shop now and they are tellin me that its the map sensor...what do you think i just wanna know before i pay them to fix it

well it can be a few things the easy thing is a bad engine control module (ecm) the old tap test is the sure fire test. when the engine is up to operating temp use a screw driver and tap on the engine cotrol module with the handle of the screwdriver. the ecm is in the r/f fender well under the fuse block. if you tap on it and the engine dies that the culprit! another thning to do is with it running give the engine harness that runs under the radiator support a tug if the engune dies you have a bad wire going to the engine computer. last thing could be a bad fuel injector in order to tet that the upper intake manifold has to come off and check each injector's electrical resistance and see which ones may be shorted causing a stall condition. good luck :-}
