Pontiac Repair: 2000 olds alero, olds alero, bad cluster


Question
i have a 2000 olds alero in my shop  nothing on the instrument cluster works but the turn signal and service engine light any help would be greatfull   thks

Hi Fred:
I assume you checked the basics like fuses. are the fuses all powered up? those cars have ignition switch issues Usually they loose the blower motor when the switch goes bad among other things. if you indeed have power to the fuse the next thing to check is for power and ground at the cluster it's self so take it out and back probe the cluster and see what you have there. If you have power and ground the only other thing it needs is serial data from the other modules wot work. do you have a scan tool? any codes stored in any other module? if you have data on the scan tool will the IPC communicate? if  you have data on other modules but nothing from the IPC I would suspect a bad cluster. good luck :)
