my van will start sputtering and backfiring and sometimes die after it gets so hot. It will start back up wnen it dies though.

It sounds like either a fuel delivery issue or am ignition system. Does it happen more so when it wet an damp out more so then dry out? That would indicate an igniton system issue like a bad set of spark plug wires. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? usually no one ever replaces them untill they are so badly plugged up the fuel pump is dmaged and over worked from trying to pump the fuel trough a plugged/restricted filter. stop by one of the big box auto parts stores and have them scan the van for codes and see what codes are stored other then a misfire code. good luck :-}
