hi i got a 1997 grand prix gt 3800 v6 the key got lost for ignition so i got a new key cly  but to get the old cly out it has to be in the start position but dont have the key so can i drill it out if so how drill somewhere in the housing to get it to release or drill in the key hole thanks

Hi there:

well here is the deal. if you goto the dealer they can cut you an original key for that car. It should work assuming that the lock cylinder was never replaced before. at the delaer all you need to do it produce your registration and the tile for the car and they can look up the key code for your car and cut you a new key that way you don't need to screw around drilling out the old cylinder. It's really hard to explain where to drill the housing out to get the cylinder out of the column. it's much easier to do it that way and less hastle. the other issue you could have is if thei car has pass key or not. that is a secuity system from the factory in 97 I think some had it and some didn't they can tell you at the dealer when you give them the VIN # if it has it or not. If it does then there is a long drawn out process to learn the new key to the car's security system. good luck :-}
