Pontiac Repair: testing the crank sensor, crank sensor, ohm meter

Question
Hi Todd. Last week you helped me to find the crank sensor, but I am not sure that I took out the right sensor. When I took it to the parts store to buy replacement, they tell me that I have a cam sensor, not the crank sensor. So, I have two questions. How do I test the sensor that I took out? And two, My engine is a 3.4l and 2400 valves, which they say makes a difference, Why?

Answer
The cam sensor you can't test. unless you took it out from under the power steering pump it's not the CAM sensor. they have no clue what they are talking about. the crank sensor 3x is on the back of the block by the transmission and the 24 X is behind the blancer you can't test that one either. the 3x is the only one you will be able to test. with a digital ohm meter the reading should be between 800-1400 Ohms across the 2 terminals in the sensor.
Good luck :-}
