Pontiac Repair: vacuum hose, vacuum source, vacuum hose

Question
Pontiac Repair: vacuum hose, vacuum source, vacuum hose
engine
i have a 94' grand am v6 3100 it looks like theres a hose missing and i tried looking on the engine to see if there was a hose somewhere that wasn't attached but couldn't find anything. The image shows where the hose should go. it has black duck tape capping it off which i don't think should be there. Its on the left side in the back right in front of the alternator if your looking at the engine from the front of the car. any info would be appreciated thanks

Answer
Hi nick:
that port on some engines is used and on some it's not. that is usually a port for the vacuum hose for the HVAC system. if the HVAC modes works then on that year the HVAC vacuum source is on the other side of the engine by the throttle body. that port usually has a rubber cap on it when it's not used. Duct tape is not a good "cap" get a piece of vaccum hose and pur a bolt in the end of it and then put it on the port to cap it off. Good luck :-}
