Pontiac Repair: output speed sensor, output speed, pontiac grand am

Question
HELLO,my question is,my mechanic told me that my output speed sensor wasnt working so he just pull the plug and say that i dont need it if i drive for short distance,so the transmission wont get hot,it will be ok to drive without it,the reason he pull the plug was that for him to fixed he will have to bring downthe transmission to pull the other plug that attached to the outside plug and that will be costly,can just find the output speed sensor and attached to the transmission to see if works,without bringing thre transm down. my car is a 1995 pontiac grand am 2.3 quad4 with 161000 miles.thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Ray;

i wouldn't drive it at all with the thing unplugged. it will defaut to a higher gear like 3'rd from a start and it will put a lot of stress/heat on the trnamission and with that amount of milage it isn't going to take much to burn it up. I would get it fixed there and be done with it.
good luck :)
