Pontiac Repair: fumes?, fuel leaks, rust belt

Question
Todd
My daughter has an older Sunfire that seems to be a good solid car. Lately there is a problem I cant figure. Upon starting the vehicle there is an exhaust and or fuel odor. This goes away soon. I cant find any fuel leaks, and the exhast seems OK.
Its most noticeable whe the car is started after not being driven for a while-as if there is more buildup to burn of or whatever. Do you have any idea what this is? Thanks!

Answer
Hey bud. id this a engine with a Quad dula over head cam engine 2.4 liter If so look at the fuel pressue regulator those would tend to leak on those engines. if it has a 2.0 liter I would look good and hard the the injetors. I have seen the seals on the injectors leak It's hard to see them on the really older ones like 95-97 those were more apt to leak then say 98 and up the injetors were different on the newer ones. other then that there is not much else that would leak. If you libe in the rust belt like I do the fuel lines leak under the car especially back by the tank. The bad news with that is if the fuel lines are leaking the break lines are not far behind them. They are sold as a complet bundle with the lines for fuel and brakes. It's not as expensive as you would think either.
Good luck :)
