Pontiac Repair: battery cables for a 01 grand am, fuse block, battery cables

there is a small box in the middle of my positive cable, is there s part that belongs in it? all of a sudden my car has no power and wont start

Hi Sue:
No the cable should split off and go to the starter and then to the underhood fuse block. there should be no box in the middle of the cable. with out seeing it I have no idea what that would be. I would check the battery cables at the battery. the batteries in those cars have issues with the acid leaking out of the battery and corrding the cables right at the battery.  good luck :)
