Pontiac Repair: 2001 pontiac bonneville 3.8 supercharge, pontiac bonneville, hook ups

Question
can you put a normal non supercharge 3.8 engine in a  2001 pontiac bonneville 3.8 supercharge car? I recently put a non supercharge in the supercharge car and the car doesnt run right. It throws off several codes.

Answer
Hi Sherry:
Yes it can be done BUT there are a lot of differences. the engine control computer is different in more then one way It may have the same PArt # but the calibations (program) in the computer is diferent due to it being a normally asperated engine VS having a super charger on it.there are a bunch of extra sensors and hook ups that a the base 3800 engine doesn use so that is part of why the codes are setting. the supercharger program is looking for sensors that are not hooked up on a base 3800. would a base 3800 (program) work in that engine control module that originally had a super charger? I don't know. and the dealer can't help you out it's called VIN tampering and there is a fine associtaed with trying to do that if caught. Your best best would be to tryto find a speed/performance shop that has computer software that caan alter the program in the engine control module. there is no Vin tampering involved doing it that way.sorry I acn't be of more help but it's an odd question. good luck :)
