Pontiac Repair: Car Whistling- 96 Pontiac Grand AM, pontiac grand am, belt tensioner

Hello,

I have a 96 Pontiac Grand AM.  While riding home yesterday it started making this loud whistling noise then my battery light flashed on and off twice sound like it was coming from under the hood.  Then after about 10 min. it stopped making the whistling noise.  I drove it to work today and its not making the noise anymore.  Do you know what the problem may be?  Please let me know.

Hi There:

well with out seeing it or hearing the noise it's just strictly a guess but I would say you have an alternator that is on it's way out. Or if it is a 4 cylinder it could have a belt tensioner that is going bad and the belt is starting to slip and that is cuaing the lamp to come on But doubtful. It's more then likely an alternator issue. good luck :)
