Pontiac Repair: 99 Pontiac Sunfire Se Auto Trans Starter, pontiac sunfire, purple wire

Question
Hey, I have an issue with my starter. The wiring was bad on the ground to the starter so I went to replace the terminal end and snapped the whole bolt of the starter. I replaced the starter, ignition switch, and batter and forger the wiring to the starter. I don't know if I hooked the wires up right but it will not start. I touched the ground to the starter on the s post and go it to turn over with the key in it but it kept clickking while the engine was running and was making a weird noise like the crankshaft or something was grinding. I think the wiring is wrong. What do it do?

Answer
Hi David:
that wire is not the ground it's the power feed from the ignition switch the ground is from the engine block. chances are yoyu hooked it up right but the wire is touching the batttery feed. it's very easy for the prurple crank wire to touch the battery cable terminal. especially if you put a new eng on the wire and it's too big. take a nother look at it and see what you have going on. another thing to try is this take that purple wire off the starter and use a 12Volt test light to the wire and engine ground. turn the key to run the lamp should not light. turn it to crank it should light then let the key go back to run the lamp should go off again if it ddoe then the wires are touching at the starter or the solenoid on the starter is sticking on. good luck :)
