Pontiac Repair: Instrument cluster, door switches, pontiac grand am

Question
Hi...
I am having problems with my instrument cluster... I have called some dealerships and they want an arm and a leg to replace the thing... Do you know where I can find a refurbished one? I read one of you answers regarding someone else who was having a problem with their cluster as well... You mentioned something about the anti theft feature affecting the cluster... My keyless entry hasn't worked for a few months now either... Is that something separate that would need replacing as well? Please help... I am beside myself with this car... Sorry, forgot to mention... The car is a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT...
Thanks so much,
Ivan

Answer
Hey Ivan:

what is wrong with the cluster? what is it doing? WWhen the cluster is "acting up" is there anything else going on with the car like a blower motor not working or the radio acting wierd? The anti theft on a newer Grand am 99 and up has nothing to do with the cluster other the the "security" lamp on the dash. You can try a junk yard for a cluster is #1 they will sell you one some states froun on that and then you need to find one that has the same gauge option package as yours a GT is different then an SE and one that has around the same milage. You can goto a dealership and order one through them. They usually run around $200.00 for an exchange unit. the everyday consumer can not order one from where we order ours. Look On E-bay ;)

As far at the keyless entry what's wrong with that? do only a few of the functions work? does it not work from either fob? do the power door lonck work from the door switches?
