Pontiac Repair: 2007 Torrent Heater Sweet Smell, fan speed control, hey chuck

QUESTION: When I turn on the heater it produces a very noticeable sweet (almost burning) smell.  Heat only works if I keep it set on high temp and it works best (but gets way to hot) when directional setting is on full windshield defrost.  I have not noticed any leaks inside or outside the vehicle.

sounds like you have a heater core starting to leak. As for the temp will it go to cold and will the modes change? They have issue with the temp and mode doors breaking off inside the heater box. Usually the temp door breaks off and you have either full heat or full cold and nothing in between. I own a2008 Torrent ans my personal SUV and the fan speed control stinks in order to really feel the heat/cool it has to be at least at the 3/4 on the fan dial. that is just they way these are :(. QUESTION: Thanks Todd -- The modes will change, but I either get full hot or cold.  Nothing in between.  So it sounds like the heater core may be leaking (the sweet/burning smell) and the temp door may be broken (full hot or full cold).  Just found I did purchase extended warranty so hopefully this will get covered.

If you get a full temp sweep from hot to cold but no in between sounds like an issue with the heater control module of the temp acatuator for the door's claibartion is out of claibartion. if the door was broke you would have just full cold or full hot.
