Pontiac Repair: steering wheel lights, lighting works, back lighting

Question
i have a 98 grand prix super charged, all the lights in and out work great, but the steering illuminating lights don't work.i checked the fuses and they seem to be fine.can it be the bulbs, and if so how do you replace them, thanks.

Answer
Hi Louis:

did they all quit at the same time dore did they go out 1 by 1? If that is the case they they went out 1 by 1 then yes the buttons are bad. there are not bulbs in there they have Led's and they are not replaceable you need to replace the button assemblies. If norder to replace them you need to remove the air bad from the steering weel to gain acced to the harness that plugs into the buttons. For that reason having to handle the air bag it's not a do it your self job. If they all quit at the same time and all the back lighting works on the dash like the radio buttons on the radio but al of the steering wheel lamps quit at one time I would suspect a bad SIR coil in the steering column. good luck :)
