Pontiac Repair: bonnevile, auto parts stores, motor v6

Question
i have a 94 bonnevile and it starts fine when cold but put it in drive and it dies , but let it warm up and its fine? check engine light come on at the first time this happened.
its the 3800 motor v6 not supercharged.

Is the service engien soon light on all the time now? If so I would get the car scanned for codes at one of the big box auto parts stores they do it for free and see what code(s) are stored. That is a starting point. Untill you know what the code is it's hard to tell you what direction to start looking at. Does this car have a lot of miles on it? When it dies out does it chuck ans sputter then die or does it cut out like someone just turned off the key?
