Pontiac Repair: 96 Pontiac Sunfire GT missing, cutting off and running rough, dual overhead cam, pontiac sunfire

Question
Out of the blue when I was pulling on to the interstate last night my Sunfire started losing power, did not want to accelerate and the check engine light was flashing.  By the time I got off the interstate a few miles down the road in was stalling out and when I restarted it running rough.  When I finally nursed it home checked the oil and water levels, both were fine.  Also, the temp gauge never showed it overheating.  Where should I start looking for my problem?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Candy:

I'll assume this has a quad dual overhead cam engine being that it's a GT. If so I would suspect an ignition system issue either a bad coil/Coil cover that the coild attach to or a bad spark plug connector that boes between the coil housing and the spark plugs. with out seeing it it's hard to say for sure what the issue is but it's one of those. the reason the lamp was flashing was becaue the engine was misfiring and only running on 2 cylinders. Good luck :)
