Pontiac Repair: gauges and strats then stall, pontiac sunfire, cranks

Question
1998 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L 4cyl. At first the only problem was if you were going down the road the gauges would cut off but the car would still keep going like nothing was wrong. Then one day it starts then stall immediately and the lights on the gauges were not on.Well got mad hit the dash and the light on the gaudes come on.so i try to start the car and it cranks up.Well a month later it stop working no lights on the gauges and it would starts and stalls.Hitting the dash stop working. So we took the dash out couldn't find nothing wrong put the car.So we put it back together. Then we have lights and its starts up (it has been sitting for three months).Since we have put it back together its been cranking up for the last week but the theft system light stay on and its not flashing and we haven't had to hit it to crank.LOL!Help!!

Answer
Hi Susan:

as for the stalling you seem ot have had no issues recently just the starting? The dash cluster is the theft control module for this car you could have an issue with the cluster it's self of a bad connection going to the cluster. Most likley the issue is with the ignition lock housing. the theft control sensor is in the outter housing on that car those go bad all the time. it's a 80% chance it's that the other 20% is either a cluster or a bad connection at the cluster. good luck :)
