Pontiac Repair: 2002 Aztek Check engine light, gm dealer, oxygen sensor

Back again..
I replaced the cluster with an exact match, everthing works.
EXCEPT the check engine light and the traction control light-I don;t know if the car has traction control on it or not...
In any event, the rest of the diagnostics work...again, no engine codes except the MIL code.
Do you think I should take it to a GM dealer and have the BCM reflashed and reset?
Also, is there something that would simply "shut off" the diagnostic?
Fuses are good, no other issues with elecrical or mechanical other than the lack of a engine light which stops me from getting an inspection here in ny. stupid but thats how it is as you know.
I am thinking maybe the computer is holding the info that the light is out and simply is not sending or recieveing info?
just guessing here.
Most folks have a problem with the light staying on, that I could deal with...this is the opposite.

Is that what you original issue here was? I remeber your question at least part of it. If the car has ABS chances are it has traction control as well. If you have a MIL lamp code stored in the PCM I think it will still pass emission test There is a question when the car gets inspected if the MIL lmap turns on or not it has to be answered no but I don't know if it will pass with a MIL code stored or not. a MIL lamp code is not emission related per say so it may fly on an inspection. It would fail for sure it it had a code for an oxygen sensor or a fuel trim code etc.... As for the BCM it's not programable in that car. If you have a repair manula for this the code for a MIL malfunction it pretty straight forward on those older cars there was a dedicated MIL lmap ckt. take a look at the engine controls diagram for power ground and MIL control. If you have a break or high resistance in that wiring anywhere it will set that code.  On thse there is an electrical connector right by the bracket for the anti lock brakes on the left siide of the engione compartment the wire may be rubbed or broken right on the edge of that bracket the wire is brown with a white tracer on it.
