Pontiac Repair: 1994 Pontiac Transport fuel pum

Question
QUESTION: I just changed out the fuel pump on my van and it still won't fire. checked the fuel filter and changed out the fuel pump relay. As long as I'm spraying starting fluid it will run but as soon as I stop it dies. What else can I check?

ANSWER: Hi Ron:

does the pump run when you turn the key to run? It should run for a second or 2 for a prime and once the engine is cranking the pump should run again and continue to run. If not you need to check the electrical ckts from the relay to the pump. The pump ground and the ckts from the engine computer to the pump relay. Get a service manual from the parts store but stay away from Haynes manuals either Chilton or Motor are good ones and follow the ckts and see where the issue is. I'll assume it doesn't have any blown fuses for the engine computer or the fuel pump?
