Pontiac Repair: Transmission repair, rd gear, gear switch

Question
QUESTION: Do I need to drop the tranny to replace the torque converter unlocking solenoid ?

ANSWER: Hi Dave:

No you shouldn't have to. What model car and trasnmission is in this car? You may need to lower the tranmssion down in some applications to gain access you need but without knowing what this is in I can't tell you.

QUESTION: It is a 1992 pontiac grand am with a 2.3L motor . I have no idea what tranny it is .

Answer
that is a 3 speed 125 automatic. No the transmission doesn't need to be removed but the mount has to be unbolted from the car and the tranission lower down on the drivers side to get the side access cover off the trasnmssion and the solenoid is right there Pretty easy fix once you get it lowered down. While your in there replace the 3'rd gear switch as well.
