Pontiac Repair: Aztek 2002, ac delco, fish expert

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
I have a 2002 aztek and the bulb for the check engine light and traction light I believe are burt.
throws a MIL code. thats all...
are these changeable leds or whatever if I remove the dash?
or do I have to get a whole new dash module?>
if thats the case on a scale of 1-10 how difficult is it to replace?
Thank you so much for your time, I am on here as well in the Tropical Fish Expert....
Mike

ANSWER: Hey Michael:
If it's just setting a MIL lamp code then I wouldnm't really worry about it unless you need it for you state emission test. Here in NY it has to work. The whole cluster needs to be replaced the lamp is actually a LED and it's not serviced. I would rate the IPC replacment as a 6 on a 1-10 scale. You need to get a exchange unit from a dealer or if youi can find a jnk yard that will sell you one but it has to be from the same year and have the same options at yours has. What makes this more of a "6" job it I belive the IPC needs to be set up with a scan tool so that is something once you replace it your going to have to take it to the dealer or a AC delco repaiur center that has access to a GM scan tool to set up the cluster to "pair" to your car. good luck :)

QUESTION: I am in NY , so I have to have it.
If I understand correctly I have to replace the entire gauge cluster?
I am not sure what to ask for when calling a junk yard so if you could help me out I would appericate it.
Sucks actually as there are no other issues with the car other than the MIL code.
If the board is cracked I will try to jump it with some copper wire other than that if you tell me what I have to get I will proceed.
not alot of options I don;t believe.
pretty much standard, or if you could tell me what options are tied to this unit...
thank you for your time and assistance.

Answer
usually it's an LED issue with the cluster and yes it's the whole thing. The led's are not replaceable. We do not fix theme here in the dealer we get them from a reman facility. you can try a slavage yard looks like the only sticking point for options is ABS or not. So if a junk yard will sell you one make sure it came out of a 2002 with ABS.
If you in NY try this place it's called Wilberts GM and buick parts they are in Webster NY outside of Rochester do a google search to find them.
