Pontiac Repair: 1993 Pontiac Bonneville stalls when coming to a stop., chevron techron fuel system, pontiac bonneville

Question
Got a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville that recently underwent some troubles: It wouldn't start, even though you could hear it trying to. After replacing the fuel pump, it starts and runs normally. Car fixed right? However, when slowing to a stop, it sounds like it has trouble either idling or down shifting (It's an automatic). Sometimes it stalls and has to be restarted, sometimes it doesn't, but starting is no longer a problem. It's exactly as the Subject says. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Answer
Hi Devon:

I would look at the throttle plate and the throttle body and the idle control valve. Over time ther have a tendency to carbon up and cause stalling issue. take the idel control valve out and clean the tip only. clean the throttle plate and the throttle body. disconnect the battery and touch the cable together. reattach the cables then turn the key to run but don't crank it. turn the key off wait a minute and do it again. wait another minute and start it. It will start hard due to the cleaner in the engine. Also try a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner in the tank. That works great for fuel injectors. good luck :)
