Pontiac Repair: Rear parking brake cable, needle nose pliers, caliper piston

Question
Have a 04 Grand Prix GT.  Need to replace rear passenger side
caliper, but not sure how to unhook what I take to be the emergency brake cable.  After replacing, does that cable need
to be adjusted some how?  Do you need a special tool?
Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Ron:

this is what to do. there is an adjuster on the brake cable in the rear it's called an equalizer. back off the nut on the threaded rod of the equalizer untill the cables are not attached anymore. take the caliper off the car and then unbold the bracket that the cable is attached to then wiggle and jiggle the cable to get it off the caliper arm. reattach the cable to the caliper then the bracket back onto the caliper and then the caliper back onto the car. before you put the caliper back on tae note of the notches on the caliper piston and make sure the new caliper the notches are facing the same way before you put it on. if they are not use a pair of needle nose pliers and just turn the piston by inserting the pionts of the pliers in the notches and turn it that way. after it's on the car re attache the cables at the equalizer and turnten the nut back down to where it was before you started. bleed the air out of the caliper and your done. good luck :)
