Pontiac Repair: repairing the radio by changing the fuses, pontiac transport, station memory

Question
I have a '94 Pontiac Transport 3600, with the original radio in it. I lost the controls in the steering wheel sometime ago, but the radio and tape play still worked manually. Then the radio stopped working, so I changed the fuses assoc. with the radio in the manual.  The radio would work for a short time, and then stop working again. What's happening with my van?  The clock continues to work, that is when I can set it...but also refuses to submit to commands after the radio stops working.

Answer
Hi there:
sounds like an internal failure in the radio it's self. The clue to it is that clock doesn't need to be reset. if the clock kept resetting then that would indicate a powwer issue to the radio. On those older radios they have 2 fuses one for the clock and station memory and one to turn it on when the key is in the on position. So the memory fuse is good and it want to turn on but none of the buttons work so I'm thinking the issue is in the radio and not with the van. That Vintage radio was touchy usually the display wouldjust cut out but the radio would work sounds like your is 180 degrees the other way.
