Pontiac Repair: Bellhousing, pontiac firebird formula, pontiac firebird

Question
How do I loosen up the bellhousing from the motor of a 96 Pontiac Firebird Formula..LT1 350?

Answer
Hi there:
I'll assume this is a manual trans in this since you said bell housing? Or is it an Automatic? Either way after you get all the bolts out the 2 locating pins on the back of the engine block have a tendency to get stuck. dis similar metals between aluminum and steel cause corrosion. A good penetrating oil like kerol kreep or PB blaster on the holes where the locatin pins stick though and let it sit for a whle and spray it up again and let it sit. I have used a small pry bar or screw driver as a wedge inbetween the 2 to get things moving but be VERY VERY careful you don't damage the block or the bellhousing. once it start to wiggle spray it up again and wiggle it etc eventually it will sperate it takes time... Good luck :)
