Pontiac Repair: 1999 grand am 3.4 6cyl, blown head gasket, intake manifold gasket

Question
Hello Todd, The motor has 150000 miles, it has never overheated until last week when I was stuck in traffic on a 90+ degree day. It was not steaming at all just the temp gage was at hot and was running rough. I pulled over let it cool down, restarted. Did this several times to get home. Had to park again, after 10 min would not start so I let it sit.
After an hour it started and I drove it home, 10 minutes. I did not use it the next day until I came home from work. Before I started it I noticed the resevoir was empty so I filled it and topped off the radiator, it was low. It was never leaking on the ground. I proceeded to start it and drove around the block. Less than 10 min temp gage on hot. The resevoir was empty again, filled again, drove around the block, on hot again, empty again. The coolant was going somewhere, yes in the crank case. The car sat for a few days because I did not know what to do. I started it up and it was running very rough, bluish smoke too. I pulled dipstick and the coolant/oil mix was way up the dipstick, about 8". I decided to do an oil and filter change. The oil was like a thin chocalate milk shake! After fresh oil and filter it started up, ran smooth like nothing happened. I only ran it for five minutes or so. Is the motor shot now? Should I run it longer to see what happens? Have it tested? I am afraid to drive it now. Does this mean a blown head gasket? Could there be a blockage in cooling system? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Cliff

Answer
Hi cliff:

Yep it has at the very least a blown head gasket. chnaces are the intake manifold gasket was leaking to start things off and the coolant was low and it over heated and hopefully only cooked a head gasket out of it and didn't crack a head or wharp anything. DO NOT DRIVE IT. coolnat and oil mix is deadly to an engine ther is no lubrication at all when there is coolant mixed in. so it's going to have to come apart for csome exploring to see what is damaged other then a head gasket. Good luck :)
