Pontiac Repair: BCM Pontiac Aztek 2001, pontiac aztek, abs brakes

Question
My wife has a 2001 Aztek. She wont let me replace the car so I have to replace the BCM. I have a locked radio, no power to windows or rear gate, and security on the display. Hopefully I am on the right track. BCM ? My question is I have located a used BCM from a wrecked car just like hers will it work? Will the dealer be able to progam a used unit to match her car? Or do I have to find a new unit? I have also been told it could be the pass III system? Thanks for  any help!!!

Answer
Hi JR:

I think your on the right track with the BCM being the issue BUT you could also have a power and or gound problem with the inputs to the BCM a poor connection at a ground point in the truck or high resiatnce in the ignition switch contacts. usually when this happens youi will get some sort of power mode codes set or some "U" communicationcodes stored in some of the modules in the truck. I think that in this case the BCM is the culprit. You can not use a used unit in it. Once a VIN# is set in the BCM it's mated to that truck and only that truck. so you will need a new BCM BUT THE NEW UNIT NEEDS TO BE CONFIGURED to match the truck bith VIN# and truck options EG abs brakes,Auto a/c,thft system etc... That has to be done with a GM scna tool. other wise you will have the same issue with the BCM being locked but in a different way. Good luck :-}
