Pontiac Repair: tranny change, rd gear, pressure gauge

1 have a 96 TA I replaced the tranny with one from a 98 chevy pick up.it will not move. the tranny doesn't even engage. any suggestions? 5.7 engine

Hi Mike:

well first off you should have found a used trasmission from the same year and model truck ther are differences. this is an electronically controlled transmission in this car so that adds a whole new dimensionto the mix. That being said even if you had the transmission unplugged electronically the manual valve should give you a revers gear and a default to maybe 3'rd gear when you put it into drive. So you may have an issue mechanically with the "used" unit you pu into this car. I can pretty much guarantee you that if it did work you would have some shifting issues with it due to the different car/truck models. first and foremost I would do a pressure test on the transmission you need a pressure gauge to hook up to the transmission and see what the oressure reads in park R/n/od/d2/1 and go from there.
