Pontiac Repair: 96 grand am cluster, hey raymond, air bag module

Question
I just replaced the gauges in my 96 grand am. Car starts and runs fine. But the gauges jump around and the lights flash on and off on the cluster. What do i do?

Answer
Hey Raymond:

what was wrong with the old cluster same issues? Is the cluster you replaced a remanufactured one or one from a junk yard? if this is a different issue then what you replaced it for it's possible the cluster you put in the car is bad. another thought is this if the car has a wter leak in it the air bag module may be under water and air bad module and the cluster are tied towther wither the cars wiring the air bag module is under the passenger front seat pull the carpet up and feel around under the carpet if it wet you may have found your problem. If that is the deal and your going to fix it your self DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND THEN TURN THE KEY TO RUN WITH THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED before you attempt any kind of air bag repair. I personally would not recomend any kind of air bag repair for a do it your selfer.
